WATCH THE MASTERS WITH VARCHAS AND A SPLASH OF SOUTHERN SPICE
The Masters Golf Tournament, held annually at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, is known for its traditions, prestige, and exclusivity. While the tournament itself has a long list of traditions, there aren’t any cocktails that are uniquely associated with The Masters in the same way that certain drinks are linked to other events or places, like the Mint Julep with the Kentucky Derby or the Pimm’s Cup with Wimbledon.
While the traditional Old Fashioned cocktail typically consists of whiskey (usually bourbon or rye), sugar, bitters, and a citrus peel for garnish, there are certainly variations that incorporate different flavors, including peach or pecan–two ingredients that are native to Augusta.
Here’s a recipe for a Peach Pecan Old Fashioned that will make you feel like you are walking the greens with the best golfers in the world as you are watching the tournament on your flat-screen TV.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Varchas Bourbon or Rye
- 1/4 oz peach liqueur or peach syrup
- 1/4 oz pecan liqueur or pecan syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel for garnish
- Pecan halves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a mixing glass or shaker, combine the bourbon or rye whiskey, peach liqueur or syrup, pecan liqueur or syrup, and Angostura bitters.
- Add ice to the mixing glass or shaker and stir well to chill the mixture.
- Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and gently squeezing the peel, then drop it into the glass.
- Optionally, garnish with pecan halves for added flavor and presentation.
- Serve and enjoy your Peach Pecan Old Fashioned!
This variation adds a touch of sweetness and Southern flair with the peach and pecan flavors, while still maintaining the classic Old Fashioned profile. Adjust the proportions of the ingredients to suit your taste preferences, and feel free to experiment with different brands of peach and pecan liqueurs or syrups to find the combination you like best. Cheers!
